You may have noticed a new living room trend that has been brewing. That trend is oversize architectural coffee tables! I jumped on board this trend last month with a gorgeous oak coffee table that I bought secondhand. Today, I’m showing you the beauty of oversize architectural coffee tables so that you might consider adding a unique focal point to your living room.
This trend has been a long time coming back around, since a lot of vintage coffee tables are large and architectural. My theory is that we have all been obsessing over those streamline rectangular mid century modern coffee tables for so long that we are itching for something different.
Vintage furniture is making a giant comeback as of late, and my own coffee table selection was inspired by Orlando Soria’s coffee table he bought on Craigslist and it was exacerbated by my discovery of gorgeous architectural Danish teak coffee tables; I’m obsessed. Let’s take a look at some gorgeous oversize architectural coffee tables, shall we?

Featured above: West Elm coffee table
The triangular nesting tables above are from West Elm but are actually a replica of vintage Danish teak tables. I found the Danish ones on Facebook Marketplace for only $40 but by the time I messaged the seller, they had already been sold. UGH. So that started me on a search for something architectural, wooden, and triangular. A tall order, right?
I found a few vintage options on ebay, but they were like $300 plus shipping. While this is a fair price, I’m looking for a local deal. I then analyzed the design and decided I could build them myself.. Thankfully, I found the coffee table I ended up purchasing on Facebook Marketplace, so my 600 square foot apartment didn’t have to turn into a wood shop. I’ll show you my coffee table after I DIY the bamboo chairs and put away the Christmas decor so you can get an uncluttered view.

More and more vendors are embracing this trend, which makes me so happy. Honestly, CB2 has been a long time favorite of mine because they have the coolest coffee table designs. You might remember reading the Goop x CB2 post I did a while ago. If you missed it, that furniture collaboration includes a great architectural coffee table. I also wrote about Nate and Jeremiah’s Living Spaces collection, which includes a great coffee table.

It’s so funny how different trends influence the next. First we loved the farmhouse and Scandinavian styles for their raw wood and minimalism, then the mid century modern style for its simple shapes and familiarity, now we are fawning over architectural styles that are influenced by all of the above!

Did I convert you to team oversize architectural coffee tables? I hope so, because they are suuuuch a beautiful addition to a space. With the popularity of Scandinavian minimalism, you’ve probably already de-cluttered your home and made space for a gorgeous show stopper.
Not ready to commit to an oversize architectural coffee table? No worries. Maybe start small with an interesting piece of pottery or a small side table. Look at the lines of furniture and decor, and buy what you find interesting and unique.
