Holla! It has come to my attention that everyone is stressed out. Or, I guess I should say, everyone is still stressed out. The dread of summer ending, back to school happening, and you may or may not also be the newly appointed homeschooling teacher. I am a big believer that our physical space shapes our mental space, so I want to help you add some beauty without breaking the bank. My original intent for this post was to do an end of the summer roundup of clearance sales. But, my first stop was Crate and Barrel and suddenly I found myself with over 30 browser tabs open and more on the way. So, today I am rounding up alllll the Crate and Barrel clearance items I LOVE so that you can treat yourself to somethin’ purdy (or just enjoy looking at pretty things for free!).
It is likely that since March or April, you have been working from home and/or helping your children finish out the school year by homeschooling them…and then by keeping them alive as you split up WWE fights in your living room. Right when you thought summer would be your break, the world just kept falling apart. It happens sometimes; and I feel you, friend. Your saving grace has been that in August, the kids would LEAVE and go back to school. Emphasis on the LEAVE part. Now, your life is still up in the air, you’re oscillating between tasks, putting away fires and sibling fights along the way. Geeze, you need a break.
You can show yourself care by loving your interiors so that you can reclaim some semblance of normalcy and calm. That’s what I’m here for! I help people regain their sense of normalcy, calm, and beauty on the daily. I am all about making small changes in spaces that speak to you. Since you’re home more, is there a reading nook you want to create for yourself? What about all the time you’re spending outdoors–do you need a new mudroom bench? What about outdoor furniture? How can you show yourself love by caring for your space and meeting your own needs?
Think about your lifestyle and meet that need so that you can feel empowered instead of trapped.
Change also doesn’t have to be pricey. Remember when I designed 3 complete living rooms for under $1k? I also almost exclusively shop sales (for myself and for clients), so I’m happy to share my picks of the Crate and Barrel clearance items that make me feel happy! If you don’t already know this, I am a big believer in budget, but awesome, decor. I’ve even created a few posts about it to help ya out:
36 Crate and Barrel Clearance Items I LOVE
Let’s give you a round of applause and some serious celebration really quickly. In the spring, you probably were also fumbling through creating a home office and getting everything in line that was suddenly thrown on your plate. Man, it’s just not been a year of maintaining our comfort zones, has it? I felt it too, and I even worked from home before the pandemic! It still threw me for a loop, so I did the grown up thing and designed a home office (now for 2 people) that made me feel light and happy.
I thought about my new indoor routine, then made other small improvements in my surroundings. I love to shop clearance items for extra decor, so I bought some clearance West Elm pillows for the living room (you know, more couch time), some amazing vintage Turkish oushak pillows from Etsy (I created a bedroom self care/reading nook), art prints, and a new side table that I actually used in a design for my client but then I loved it so much I had to order one too. I read Feng Shui books and tried to implement that wisdom in my home. Minimizing stress and emphasizing space has been the name of the game in our 425 square foot apartment.
If you’re like me, you want that to be the name of the game at your house too. By now, you’ve probably created a home office, you set up the home schooling room, created an organized system, learned how to manage your day without leaving the house (and with everyone suddenly all up in your space), and all the while teetering between polarizing emotions. Take a moment to LOVE yourself for those huge accomplishments. Give yourself a hug, say some affirmations, reassure yourself that you are phenomenal.

Now, just remember, things don’t equal happiness. That’s not what this post is about. But there is merit to changing your space, whether you buy or you just shop your own home. Remember my post about updating your home for free? Changing your surroundings is one of the most instinctual acts you can do to make yourself feel better. Let me help with that! PS: DIY project at the bottom of this page if you would rather do it yourself:-)
If you’re a lover of affordable roundups, on Fridays, I also post my Facebook Marketplace vintage finds on my instastories (come join the fun!), and I can’t wait to be able to visit thrift stores again without feeling anxious. That will come, and what we are trying to do in my little section of the world is focus on what we can change and then improve what we can. That’s what this roundup today is for. You can use it to shop from, or just to daydream of brighter days. The choice is yours, but I hope these Crate and Barrel clearance items make you feel happy–or at least make your wallet feel happy:-)
