If you read yesterday’s post, you know I have some exciting news. I finally bought vintage bamboo chairs! I am just so excited about this. I shared how I came to own the chairs and my inspiration for them. I will give them a good DIY makeover, and today, it’s only fitting to add vintage bamboo furniture to my Everyday Obsession series. Because I truly am obsessed and maybe I can convince you also.
For the record, I am a fan of all bamboo furniture, old and new. But there is a special place in my heart for the vintage stuff. I recently started thrifting, so hunting for vintage furniture has become a really fun hobby for me. The vintage aesthetic is alive and well, ya’ll. From mid-century modern to the newest modern Victorian trend, it’s all coming back in style.
I never used to be interested in vintage furniture. But now that I am older, I am replacing my “cheaper” pieces (aka engineered wood) with lasting items. Check out my Wabi Sabi post for the scoop on that. One of the first designers that introduced me to the beauty of mid century modern and vintage pieces was Emily Henderson (LOVE HER). Her style seamlessly blends vintage with quirky pops of modernity. Her motto is, “Let’s get weird”. Isn’t that wonderful? So guys, let’s get weird and explore different styles.

Another post will be coming soon about the new trend that’s taking over: Sahara leopard print. More on that later. What I love about bamboo furniture is its ability to fit right into any style. Above, we have painted bamboo chairs paired with leopard, which I am loving. The image on the left is understated and netural, while the image on the right hits you right in the rods and cones (in the best way). Vintage bamboo furniture is an MVP in the vintage world.

How gorgeous is this console table? OH MY GOODNESS. Bamboo is a really awesome wood because it ages really well, and its color looks super rustic. It fits in perfectly with our love for the farmhouse aesthetic. In fact, one of my new bamboo chairs will be going at my farmhouse dining table (which is a giant work space).
The space above is brilliantly colored but also really traditional. We have the chinoiserie, the Foo Dogs, the Greek key, the old books. It’s sooo traditional, but also really stylish and modern in its pattern and color. Vintage bamboo furniture will fit in any space, with any style. It’s incredible.

To find vintage bamboo furniture, you’re going to have to buy secondhand. But the good news is that there are many different shades of bamboo wood, depending on how old it is. You can also find faux bamboo furniture! The image on the right is really stylish and rustic; this is actually Yves Saint Laurent’s home. Oh la la, eh?

Studio McGee is one of my favorite accounts for neutral interiors. Even though the chairs are painted blue, check out the rest of the space; it’s neutral with some pattern on the curtains. Perfectly light and airy. While I am a color lover through and through, I think vintage bamboo furniture looks sooo strikingly good painted white. The reason? Vintage bamboo furniture is architectural. I am all about architectural furniture; it gives your space life and tells a story about how cool you are. Truly.
Do you love vintage bamboo furniture but aren’t sure how to style it? What color scheme to use? Don’t worry. It’s such a popular aesthetic that you can browse Pinterest for hours looking for every color and style. Don’t forget, I am redoing my vintage bamboo chairs and am taking you along for the ride.
