You may have seen this gorgeous banquette all over the internet, and for good reason. It’s stunning.  Would you believe it is a DIY? This expensive looking tufted banquette can be yours with just an empty Saturday and a can-do attitude. You have so many options when it comes to really amazing looking DIY projects, and today, I’m sharing 2 home DIYs with big impact. Both of these DIYs are done by Mandi Johnson (@mandimakes). She is a contributor for A Beautiful Mess and shares some great projects.

1. Upholstered Banquette

We already know my love for tulip tables, so the way this space is styled is perfect. I love the simplicity of the tulip table, wall plants, and hide rug. One of my favorite tricks for setting up a cozy dining nook is using a round table because it is gorgeous against the geometry of the wall. Everything about this is perfection and it’s showcased in a beautiful sun drenched room. I could live here.

Take a look at this before and after. The tufting makes the space look so much bigger. People are doing accent walls instead of headboards in the bedroom and this trend is extending into dining areas. Creating a cool focal space is a must have for modern homes. More and more people are caring about the comfort and design of their seating areas because of the abundance of people who are able to work from home. I know that once I started working from home, I had to redesign my living room/dining room/workout room/painting area/home office (it’s NYC, ok, so every room needs many functions).

If you are going to be working from home, you need a special area to look forward to. Of course, this area isn’t just great for a home office. It will also serve as a favorite among your friends when you host brunch. Can you imagine family dinners in this space? Or some homework and crafts with your kids? It’s so conducive for family time.

The great thing about upholstered banquette seating is its versatility. You have an entire wall of seating to play with and you can configure the furniture around that. It’s a great solution for a corner area you’re not sure what to do with. You can have a space that looks professionally designed with a little elbow grease. Home DIYs with big impact are the best and most affordable ways to create a fabulous home, customized by you.

2. Architectural Wall Paneling

There is nothing I love more than architectural detail, specifically DIY paneling. It is great way to add a special element that looks so expensive. It’s as easy as attaching wooden strips with a nail gun. The most labor intensive part of this project is using spackle to cover the seams of the wood you are piecing together. You can choose wood paneling for every wall in the room, but I would just stick with the wall flanking the bed; it’s easier and serves as a great accent wall.

If you look at the before shot, you’ll see that the wall isn’t rectangular. This is a great example of what to do if you have an oddly shaped wall; you can use paint or wood and create your own geometry and reshape the wall visually. Just because you have a wall that isn’t traditional, doesn’t mean you can’t do a great install. The best home DIYs with big impact take an odd space and turn it into something magical.
