Everyday Obsession: Saarinen Table

via Style at Home

I am thrilled about this post today. I am been a long time fan of the Saarinen table, also called “tulip” tables. The vintage Saarinen, produced by Knoll, might be the most famous furniture design of all time. It is loved by all, works with quite literally any style space, and has been reproduced so it’s affordable. There’s even an IKEA option!  Today, I’m going to show you all the ways the glorious Saarinen table can be styled, and maybe, you’ll be convinced that this is quite literally, the best table of all time.

One of the most popular neutral ways to style the Saarinen table is with other mid century modern items like the Wishbone chair. The Wishbone chair is another classic wooden design, and you can find it on Overstock for about $150. Not into the Wishbone chair? No worries. Any classic wooden chair will do, especially a cane back or a classic vintage cafe style.

The X back chair has been made popular by Restoration Hardware, obviously, but there are other affordable options. I would also recommend a great vintage style cantilever chair. This Scandinavian option is awesome (and affordable!) because it pairs the classic cantilever style with a cane back. Gorgeous! Since the Saarinen table itself is white and architectural, it looks great with a really solid chair with clean lines. Wood really pops and paired with a woven chandelier, the result is pure perfection.

Obviously, I love the colorful version of styling the Saarinen table. I can’t help it; I love me some brightness. Three of these examples show the Saarinen table paired with other midcentury options, like the Saarinen chair, wood and plastic options like this one, and metal options like this one. However, I do not recommend pairing a Saarinen table with a Saarinen chair. Personally, I am not a fan of the Saarinen chairs because they have too large of a base for my liking. Plus, you don’t want to get all matchy matchy. It works above because the chairs are paired with a different style table.

Are you convinced the Saarinen table is the best table of all time? As you can see above, it is the perfect neutral table that fits seamlessly into any style decor, literally. There are different sizing options of the Saarinen table and even coffee table options so you can find one that fits your budget and your spacial needs. Stay tuned for a post rounding up the best affordable sources for the Saarinen table.
