Spring is my favorite season. I think it is because I know we are the furthest away from cold weather and we only have warm weather and blooms to look forward to for months and months. When I get the winter sads, I just close my eyes and picture flowers and my mood instantly brightens. Just imagining the feeling of spring makes me smile…but what if we actually brought the feeling of spring INSIDE OUR HOMES?! That’s my aim for you today, friend. We are using the renewal of spring to serve as our fresh spring decor inspiration that will lift your spirit.
Fresh Spring Decor Ideas
I love sharing spring decor ideas because they serve as the ultimate mood boost. Spaces that feel like spring are comforting, joyful, fresh, and exuberant. You know by now (unless you’re new here and in that case–welcome, new friend!) that I design based on feeling first. It’s the only way to get a space that supports you holistically. That is precisely what we are aiming for here as well. We are looking for spring renewal to lift our spirits.
The vibe we are going for with these spring decor ideas is: the feeling of spring freshness.
1. Easy win: paint your trim
A low effort, low cost solution that’s highly impactful! Painting your trim gives the space life and endless charm. Highly recommend.
This trim is Sherwin Williams Sleepy Blue.
2. Thrift bamboo dining chairs
I got 4 vintage bamboo dining chairs for $40 from Facebook Marketplace. It was amazing…transporting them in torrential rain from SoHo, not so much;-) I wrote about it here and I even reupholstered them myself! Which brings me to my next spring decor idea…
3. DIY your dining chairs (yes, you can!)
Yes, you can! I did it myself with zero experience. It actually took under 2 hours to reupholster the seats of the 4 bamboo chairs I thrifted. It was super easy because all I had to do was remove the seat and then staple new fabric to the wood bottom of the old cushion to cover. No sewing involved! There are so many tutorials online and also affordable cushion covers on Amazon and Etsy.
You can also paint them! Make sure you get a line of paint appropriate for furniture not walls. It’ll greatly affect longevity and self leveling of the paint!
4. Add a Floral Motif
To quote Miranda Priestly of The Devil Wears Prada, “Florals for spring…groundbreaking”.
But hear me out! It is well known that adding nature to your indoors has mental health benefits (Source: National Institute of Health). Florals count towards that goal too:-) In every season!
Not a floral person? I hear you. How about a vine motif? Bamboo motif? Leaf motif? Truly anything works that vibes with your spirit.
5. Don't underestimate small floral vases (faux or real!)
Small touches are how you add soul and life to a home. It’s what truly personalizes your home and makes it yours. A small vase of seasonal or faux florals grounds the space and just makes you happy. Why do you think cozy cottages and quaint B&Bs always have a tiny floral arrangement on a bedside table? Because it matters. It makes the room.
6. Swap out your art prints
Recognize this tip? It’s one of the cornerstones of my seasonal decorating. You can store art prints flat or rolled in a closet or do what I do and store them in the frame behind the front print. Genius right? Art prints are so affordable (yes, even big sizes if you know where to look!), and are an excellent way to tie the room together.
7. Add ivory and butter yellows instead of white
Somehow in our search for Scandinavian design we just started painting everything white. Which is fine! But, if you’re interested, let me introduce you to….ivory. Ivory is white’s warmer more fun sister that brightens a room. While white can feel sterile and empty from the jump, ivory embraces you and creates a backdrop of warmth.
Pro tip: ivory and pale blue are a *winning* combination.
8. Add charming details like scallop and gingham
Think small: what tiny tweak could you make to an empty spot in your home to make it more cheerful? Start there.
9. Add woven accents
I’m talking rattan, water hyacinth, grasscloth, etc. Anything in a light warm wood tone that’s woven with texture is perfect! Any size, it doesn’t have to be a large bookcase like this; you can do baskets, trays, even a tissue box holder!
10. Pair accents in the blue and green color families
I have a post coming up dedicated to the blue and green palette so keep an eye out for even more inspiration from this perfect palette.
