I came up with the idea for a roundup of small special gifts under $50 because I was finding so so many gift guides with items that are like $300 or more. Granted, these gifts were beautiful, but if you’re buying for more than one person, that’s a crazy amount of money. For me, I would rather have small special gifts than something with a larger size and price tag. Maybe you do too, hence this gift guide.
Throughout the pandemic, I’ve learned to live slower and appreciate the small things. I found myself looking for higher quality items at a good price, honoring handmade gifts from skilled artisans, and purging all things that didn’t suit. I started taking an interest in who was making what I was buying and the environmental footprint I would leave behind if I bought something of lower quality that would need replacing soon.
The holiday season is typically one of excess–excess food, beverages, gifts, etc. But hear me out–what if we changed that? What if instead our “excess” was the intangible? Excess love, excess togetherness, excess self care, excess happiness. Giving someone a gift is lovely, but it’s only one way to show you love and care for someone. Instead of focusing on that one way to show love, why not buy one item made by someone awesome and then put your energy towards also gifting the intangible? Sounds like a good start to me:-)
