I don't know about you, but I need something happy to look at! I need a lot of happy things to look at, actually. I'm sitting here listening to an audiobook by Rob Bell called 'How to be Here', and just pondering. And then, up pops Jewel Marlowe's One Room Challenge Space.

I don’t know about you, but I need something happy to look at! I need a lot of happy things to look at, actually. I’m sitting here listening to an audiobook by Rob Bell called ‘How to be Here’, and just pondering. And then, up pops Jewel Marlowe’s One Room Challenge Space. YES. This is the content I want to be absorbing. I want the color, the creative, the happy. How about you? I’m sharing my 17 favorite colorful eclectic spaces from the fall One Room Challenge. If you want some happy, follow along!

I’ve written about the ORC a few times before and I usually enjoy following along to see what everyone is doing. This spring, I skipped my typical scroll of the room reveals. Why? Well, it was the beginning of the pandemic and it all seemed so…meaningless. Is that the right word? I was having daily anxiety and didn’t feel like focusing on people who are making over their homes. I wanted to be present with my own feelings of impending doom (lol). It felt weird to enjoy something when everyone was panicked.

Fast forward many (too many) months, and I have a renewed and deeper appreciation for creative endeavors. I believe creativity is what keeps us afloat. Do you remember the episode of The Office when the entire office was worried about losing their jobs? So Michael Scott got everyone to play the murder mystery game. It was a creative game with role play that took everyone’s mind off the fact that their way of life might be slipping away. And hey, it worked! It kept the office from imploding, and everyone was ok.

I think it’s ok to recognize that things are scary, uncertain, anxiety inducing, etc etc, but we can’t go down with that ship. We have to acknowledge the terror, and also make an effort to get in front of it. That’s what this post is today. I am celebrating these joy-inducing colorful eclectic spaces created during the most important One Room Challenge season yet.

I want us to look beyond the design and consider the person behind each of these designs. This creator, during the state of the world, chose to create beauty to share with us. They were able to refocus and spend their energy on creating the positive instead of consuming the negative. These spaces are AMAZING; so colorful, bold, creative. I feel something when I see them.
