What’s the first thing you think of when I say “DIY wood feature wall”? Shiplap, right? WRONG! Girl, I already wrote about how to use shiplap in 2019, so today, I’m sharing with you an amazing wall project done by Bre Purposed.
This geometric DIY wood feature wall is not shiplap, not boring, and is the perfect fall update for a mudroom, laundry room, or nook that needs some sprucing. Wood is so fun to work with because it adds nature, dimension, texture, and architecture at an affordable cost. Score!
Funny story, someone recently asked me if accent walls were “still cool”. My first question is, if you love it, does it matter if it is cool? No one’s opinion is a fact.
My proof? There are people out there who think BEETS are delicious. OH MY GRACIOUS, BARF. Is it factually accurate that beets are delicious? Maybe if you’re a crazy person. Therefore, what one person thinks is amazing might be beets to someone else. So just go with what you like…beets and all.
But by the way…accent walls are and will forever be treasures. They are literal art. So, if you want an accent wall, you should do it. And if you do an accent wall, let it be this one because it’s incredible and architectural and every other good adjective out there.

Bells and Whistles
I am a sucker for wood. I love texture, I love the age of it, I love antiques. I consider wood to be the greatest natural element to a space. So a DIY wood feature wall? SIGN ME UP. By the way, I LOVE that Bre showed us how this project came to be. She was inspired by this wall by Bells and Whistles.
The Ultimate DIY Wood Feature Wall Ft. Bre Purposed
This DIY will work best with power tools, unless you feel sawing for literal years. If so, then I’ll see you people in 2025. For the rest of you, a small electric saw will do wonders and fall is the perfect weather to move your DIY project outside for some fresh air!
Now, you could very well simplify this DIY, let’s say, for instance, if you are like me and don’t have a proper wood working space. I live in a tiny NYC apartment that I talk about (err…complain about) often, but even I have sawed wood in my kitchen…and living room…and balcony. So it’s doable.
Are you ready to see this DIY wood feature wall? Tah dahhhh!

Amazing, right? I am all about extra special feature walls popping up in the “less fun” areas of the home like a mudroom, laundry room, guest bathroom, etc. Every single inch of your home is special, so shouldn’t your design reflect the same amount of care and love?
There is also nothing more satisfying than completing a DIY project and having it turn out better than your dreams. Every time you marvel at your creation, you have a sense of pride. It’s literally the best. AND! You contributed a valuable and special piece to your home’s story.

Other applications for this project
One of the best things about DIY projects is making them work for you in your own space. So, let’s consider where else we can use this gorgeous DIY wood feature wall.
Don’t have a mud room? That’s ok! This is a super versatile project that can be used for many, many applications. If you frame it out (you’ve already got the wood!), it can be a piece of wall art. You can take this design and shorten it so it’s a cool entry feature that is also functional when you install coat hooks. Let’s explore more ideas below.
One of my favorite wood working accounts to follow on Instagram is Karvd Walls. The amount of inspiration this account gives is incredible. Using wood on the walls as a feature or art has become really popular. Let’s use their creativity to see what could work for us.

Would you do this DIY? You can use Bre’s fantastic tutorial, shorten it, give it a different geometric pattern, the possibilities are endless. So get outside this fall and get the neighbors together for a DIY night. Happy home making!
