Living rooms are one of my favorite spaces to design. A living room should be the most comfortable and cozy room in your home. It serves a number of purposes, from social gatherings to relaxation, and it should be designed to accommodate life. As far as color scheme goes, blue is such a great color for a living room because it can also act as a neutral. Today, I’ve rounded up the best beautiful blue living rooms in all different styles.
From country to modern, blue can be used to elevate any space. Blue can be calming or energetic depending on its usage. It can be an accent or the main color of a room.

The most obvious way to design a beautiful blue living room is to give the color to the largest items in the room, such as your sofa and chairs. This style will pack the most punch and give you the biggest color payoff. It’s not for everyone, though. This style lends itself to being pretty dramatic, but what you could do to balance that is ensure the rest of the room stays neutral and soft.
My favorite wall color for a blue room? WHITE. Blue and white is the power combo you want to have. It’s not as dramatic as black and white, but still incredibly stylish and suitable for any home. Not to mention, it imparts a sense of nostalgia. Blue and white has been a long time representative of all things Americana.

Another way to achieve a beautiful blue living room is by muting your blues so that they actually appear as secondary colors. In the design above, the blues have cool gray undertones, making them pass as neutrals. The gray blue sofa, gray and blue rug, and repeating accents make this room really serene and easy on the eyes. Modern elements such as abstract art and a striped ottoman make this space anything but boring.

You may have seen this image circling the blogosphere for some time now, and for good reason. If you want a really powerful monochromatic space, look no further. This space enhances the deep teal blue shades with warm woods and wovens, making it modern, cozy, and not feel so cavernous.

We all know I’m a big fan of Will Taylor, of Bright Bazaar. He can do no wrong when it comes to design and is a master and playful mixes of patterns and texture. In his spaces, he uses A LOT of blue, consistently. But, he also balances those blues with soft beiges as well as traditional and vintage looking elements, further warming up the space and giving it a sense of history.

Now, when I talk about beautiful blue living rooms, I am not just talking about plain ol’ blue. I am referring to every single variation of the color, from teal blue to gray blue. It’s all amazing. You’re certainly not limited to only using the same shade in your space. It’s really fun to vary the shade and tone of blue to add interest. This might go against your gut, because most people are so so afraid of things not matching. But, that’s actually what you’re going for. Your goal is a subtle mismatch.

Very often, blue is a key element in coastal decor, which makes sense. However, if you’re going for a coastal vibe, it is imperative that you mix it up! Don’t stick with one shade of blue. Please, I beg you, add different colors and textures. Think of the ocean: how many different of hues can you spot? THOUSANDS. Design your space like it’s an ocean of interest.

My favorite beautiful blue living rooms are the bold ones, no surprise there. These last two images make me giddy with excitement. They expertly mix blue hues with neutrals and pops of color, resulting in two perfect spaces.
So, how about you, friend? Which of these spaces is your favorite? Do you have a beautiful blue living room?
