Colorful Thanksgiving Table Decor

A modern tablescape for our colorful Thanksgiving table decor.

Happy almost Thanksgiving! Given the insane product supply chain issues, I thought it would be a good idea for us to plan our colorful Thanksgiving table decor now so we aren’t stressing out when/if things arrive late! The stores in our area are just now getting fall items in–that’s how delayed shipping has been. So I’ve put together a really fun design for you to gather inspiration from. I also linked all items if you are interested.

I know a lot of you will probably be making up for last Thanksgiving and will fully enjoy safely getting together with ones you love and ones you just tolerate (hehe). You’ll probably be itching to decorate more this year, so let’s make it special! This is an affordable high reward tablescape that you can cherry pick ideas from. The biggest ticket items in this design are the eucalyptus table garland and the vintage flatware, but you can certainly find affordable options that are similar. I want to present my overall vision with the main pieces being super affordable, and the extras being easy to duplicate for your budget.

You absolutely don’t have to have a second set of cutlery or glasses for special occasions, but if you have the storage space and resources, it could be a really fun thing! In fact, why not use the special stuff as your everyday cutlery if you’re in the market for a new set? I’m all about adding special moments into your life to make moments memorable. Pro tip: thrift stores have GREAT cutlery and glasses at amazing prices.

Country Living

In my own home, I like to buy little things to support rituals. You know, a nice mug I love for my coffee and tea ritual, pretty candlesticks for my evening candle lit dinners (that’s one thing I started during the pandemic; I literally treat my dinner time as if I’m dating myself haha), a pretty incense holder, etc. You can take things that are routine like mealtimes and make them really special for yourself. Trust me, it’s a wonderful act of self care.

A quick note on exactly who you are decorating for this Thanksgiving: the answer is YOURSELF. Whether you’re alone, have a small group, or a crowd, the person you decorate for is yourself. The person you create a blissful environment for is yourself. The person you love through your home is yourself. So do not for a single second read this post and feel left out if you don’t have Thanksgiving plans. You can still give yourself a divine experience because you are so, so worth it, friend. Psssst–I never have plans either! And I prefer it that way:-)

And now, without further adieu, let me show you colorful Thanksgiving table decor!

About the design

I wanted to design a modern tablescape for our colorful Thanksgiving table decor but also pepper in some sense of history and tradition–holidays are perfect for that! So I used some vintage items and paired our eucalyptus garland with mercury glass votives. A modern gingham napkin, windowpane tablecloth, and sculptural serveware ensures our table will be really fun and inviting and not the least bit stuffy.

Red Poppy Floral

It’s a delicate balance between a delivering a decked out tablescape while also ensuring your guests won’t stress about spilling mashed potatoes and gravy on the tablecloth. You know? Comfort is key–with some welcomed whimsy added:-) That’s the most important thing to me in all my designs. When you ask yourself, “Is it comfortable? Is it welcoming?” the answer needs to be a resounding YES. Always.

The Knot

To further make sure our table is as warm and welcoming as we want our day to be, we are foregoing the traditional napkin rings and giant centerpiece! I want every person to have the same view and I also don’t ‘want something tall obstructing our view of each other’s pretty faces. Instead, I’m opting for greenery and candles! There is something so beautiful about adding long garland to the table; if it is starting to feel too formal, nix the cloth table runner and just use garland with candlelight. It’s a perfect formula for magic.

See how the napkins are placed above? They are gently and casually folded and draped over the table at each place setting. This is perfect. For one, you get to see the beautiful design of the napkin, and secondly, it makes our colorful Thanksgiving table decor more casual.

I hope you were inspired today to tackle your colorful Thanksgiving table decor now so that you can provide a gorgeous setting for laughs and memories:-) If you’re not into color, that’s fine! The formula here is a mix of pattern, metallics, greenery, texture, history. You can replicate that with any color scheme!
