You’ve heard all about the benefits of essential oils, but have you heard about Thieves essential oil? This blend is a germ fighting powerhouse and you can use Thieves essential oil for cold and flu season to keep yourself from getting sick. It’s a beautiful blend of lemon, clove, cinnamon, rosemary, and eucalyptus; perfect scent for the holidays. Today, I’m sharing why you should use Thieves essential oil for cold and flu season.
The Story of Thieves Essential Oil
The Thieves blend is actually named after real thieves! Over 600 years ago, the plague was sweeping across Europe. With the spice trade drying up, four spice merchants used their knowledge to put together an essential oil blend to protect themselves as they robbed the plague-infested homes of the dead.
Despite being exposed over and over again to the plague, the thieves never got sick. These 4 thieves were eventually caught, but traded this healing essential oil recipe for their freedom. Cool story, right? But, besides being a cool anecdotal tale to tell, Thieves oil actually kills 99.96% of airborne germs, according to a 1997 Webster University study. If this oil can prevent you from getting the plague, you should probably use Thieves essential oil for cold and flu season.

Use Thieves Essential Oil for Cold and Flu Season
If you are new to essential oils, the easiest way to get started is by using a diffuser. There are a ton of options on Amazon, where I purchased mine for about $15. I’ve had it for almost 2 years and it shows now signs of wear and tear. In hind sight, I should have bought a more attractive option. There are a lot of diffusers that double as home decor, so I would select one of those now that I know they work well.
Ways to Use Thieves Essential Oil
Aside from diffusing my Thieves oil, I use it as a cleaner. I use the Young Living Thieves Household Cleaner concentrate to clean my trash cans and within seconds, the terrible garbage smell is completely gone. It’s magic. I was lucky enough to get a sample from a friend and although buying it is kinda pricey (almost $30), it’s a concentrate that you mix with water. So, when you think long term, it’s actually cheaper in the long run and you have less plastic waste from cleaning bottles. My sample has lasted nearly a year. FYI, this isn’t sponsored; I’m just telling you what I use.
All Things Mama has also posted 50 ways to use Thieves oil, so give that a read if you really want to get into all the ways you can use this special blend. You can either buy Thieves blend (here’s what I bought) or you can make your own with this recipe from Mountain Rose Herbs.
How about you try Thieves essential oil for cold and flu season this year? It smalls like the holidays with the cinnamon and cloves and is perfect for when you’re sick or trying to keep yourself from getting sick. It’s the best smelling way to keep you and your family healthy.
