HELLLLOOOOOO!
Today, I’m showing you this really super awesome kid room. It’s so so lovely. This design makes me feel like it belongs in a Redwood tree in a fairy forest. It is dreamy and airy and precious and soft and warm and oh so much yes.
I love the opportunity to use color, texture, and pattern. Most people shy away from it, but if it’s done properly, it will look great every single time. What’s best about mixing patterns is that it automatically gives you a sense of nostalgia. Like, when you remember how your grandma’s house looked. There was pattern everywhere! That was the style back then, so paying homage is just a great way to add some extra warmth and a deep sense of security and happiness to your space. It’s like when you walk into someone’s home and it just feels good. Have you ever experienced that? You just feel happy for no reason at all; the energy of the room is so great. This is like bringing that same energy to your space. Nostalgia, people! It works!
The Design
I began this design with the wallpaper. That’s right. This entire room revolves around this FANTASTIC wallpaper from my design wife, Anthropologie. I wanted something vintage looking and child-like…almost like something I could imagine in the old Winnie the Pooh movies that look like they were animated by hand (were they?). This reminds me of Piglet’s house in the tree. It also reminds me of a wallpaper that would be in one of the American Girls’ houses. My point is, it is colorful, fun, and nostalgic. It aids imagination, which for a kids’ room, is very important.
Then I found this awesome emerald green dresser and another whimsical Anthropologie dresser and I was in business. It did take a while to source the rug, however. And not because I couldn’t find one that worked, but it’s because I found too many that worked. I realize this is a great “problem” to have. Have I told you how much I LOVE Rugs USA?? They have soo many choices I feel like a kid in a candy store. It’s the first place I look when I need an awesome rug. Check it out–they are super affordable and always have deals. This is in no way sponsored, by the way, I just truly love them as a resource and want you to know about them too!
The rest of the design came together as a was skipping through my fairy forest for furnishings. Everything came together beautifully and I was able to add vintage pieces into the mix with the vintage-inspired pieces. It’s a great balance with a lot of repetition, which is a good thing! Repetition is what will pull everything together and cause your eye to view the space as a whole, instead of being overwhelmed and hopping around to many different objects. This space is a win in my book…ok, I don’t have a book, but you get it.
Let me know if you love this as much as I do!
