Emerald Green Dining Area

Would you come over if my dining room looked like this? Thought so. I would make you lots of good food and we could talk for hours because this space is just so elegant and warm. It's definitely a room you wouldn't leave. You know, BECAUSE OF THE SPECIALNESS. Fun fact: did you know that colors can also be neutrals? I kid you not! This room, although showing off some serious emerald dreams, is still neutral.

Hi, all! This is a very special dining room. Firstly, it’s gorgeous (and I wish it was mine). Secondly, hopefully this emerald green dining area will convince you that shades of green can be neutrals! Would you come over if my dining room looked like this? Thought so. I would make you lots of good food and we could talk for hours because this space is just so elegant and warm. It’s definitely a room you wouldn’t leave. You know, BECAUSE OF THE SPECIALNESS.

Fun fact: did you know that colors can also be neutrals?

I kid you not! This room, although showing off some serious emerald dreams, is still neutral. The shade of green has more of a blue-gray undertone, so it is not so ‘in your face’. It is more subdued and lends itself to not stand out more than the traditional neutral color palette. This is the NEUTRAL emerald dining room of my dreams.

This space was super fun to design…I mean, who doesn’t love the chance to insert really special items into the space? Yes, please!

My favorite item is the copper mirror. This isn’t just any old copper mirror. This was taken directly from the Flatiron Building here in NYC when it underwent window renovations. These are the actual copper window frames that used to be in the oldest skyscraper in NYC and were transformed into an awesome mirror by an amazing company, Olde Good Things. It’s a really unique item and a piece of history. As much as I love my city, I was absolutely thrilled to use this precious piece.

I especially love mixing the old with the new. I love pairing vintage with modern. Here, we have a vintage frame mirror, vintage cantilever chairs (my current/forever obsession), vintage credenza, and SPECTACULAR vintage travertine table mixed with modern art, wallcovering, lamp, upholstery, malachite rug (malachite=my other obession), and chandelier. Everything has so much texture and the color palette repeats itself, making it super welcoming, easy on the eyes, and just all around warm. Swoon. Emerald green is the perfect canvas for showcasing vintage finds. For some reason, emerald just makes me think of old timey velvet and cigar smoke. Is that weird? This emerald green dining area is super modern, but also gives us a sense of nostalgia.

The awesome slipcover chairs are Nate Berkus for Target and the upholstery for the cantilever chairs are Genevieve Gorder. Back when I was living in Ohio, and before I even became a designer, I remember watching Genevieve Gorder and Candice Olsen all the time. Now, Genevieve has an awesome line of fabrics that I recommend. For the lighting and wallpaper, I used some old favorites: Shop Candelabra and Abnormals Anonymous. Why mess with the best?

I am currently loooooving all things green malachite. I mean LOVE. In this bedroom design, I was able to use a gorgeous faux malachite side table, and it made my world go round. So when I found this green malachite rug from Anthropologie, I didn’t hesitate. I might have even screamed, “YESSSSS!!” at my laptop by myself…but probably in public. Whoops. But it was just too perfect for my emerald green dining area.

My favorite thing about Anthropologie is their furnishings’ ability to literally go with any style. I don’t know how they do it! Their home furnishings are what my dreams are made of. I think my “happy place” in my head is just a room furnished with Anthro. #Truth. They are so on trend (HELLO MALACHITE RUG) and yet they give a nod to vintage appeal. Le sigh. It’s just perfection.

Do you have a favorite item from Anthropologie? I love their seating, rugs, and lighting. Oh baby, oh baby. This isn’t sponsored by the way; I just love Anthropologie and am currently on a cozy beginning of fall kick where everything seems warm and magical. Anthro is my JAM. This emerald green dining area is MADE by that incredible rug. Oh so good.

Psssst: if you want a DIY Anthropologie copper curtain rod dupe, check out my post.

As always, if you want to leave a comment and let me know what you think, I would love to read it! All links to my design are below and anything out of stock, I linked a similar design from the same vendor I used. Happy designing!
