$1k Room: Modern Farmhouse Living Room

Hey, hey, hey!

Welcome to my first installment of the $1k Room. This will be a series of 3 designs, but I will probably be adding more to that as clients request. I will show you 3 of my most recent designs that cost $1,000 or less to FULLY furnish. My goal with this series is to prove to you that a great design is attainable. You can have it! And it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Today’s design? A gorgeous modern farmhouse living room.

Psst…did you know that Oblique design packages don’t cost an arm and a leg either? Oblique is about affordable design, from products to services. You can have a dream room for much much less than you think. I can’t wait to show you the 3 rooms I designed for less than $1,000 each. None of the rooms are lacking style or comfort, all of them are fully furnished, and none of them broke the back…by a long shot! Enjoy.

Goal: To design a bright and airy living room with a limited color palette using items that are high impact yet minimal in order to create a living space that is cozy, layered, and “lived in”. Style is a modern farmhouse living room.

Budget: $1,000 for furniture, finishes, and wall paint

Spent: $993 (not including tax or shipping)

*The design package selected for the modern farmhouse living room was Oblique Full for $350 and was completed within 1 week*

We are currently living in really exciting times. Because of our digital age, services are also going digital. This makes them cheaper for you! Through e-interior design (interior design done digitally), I can charge much less because I do not have to come to your home and do other things that rack up your bill. You can get the same quality design and even better service with more access to your designer (me!), for much much less money. All of the $1k Rooms were designed with one of my design packages and within 2weeks.

Interior design, once only thought of to be for the wealthy, is now even more accessible to everyone and every budget.

An average interior designer that comes to your home will charge about $150-$200 an hour. Whereas if we communicate digitally, I get all the information I need, in a quicker manner, with better written communication we both have access to, so everyone is on the same page at all times. It’s like having someone taking notes at our meetings. It’s wonderful. E-interior design also allows for a much shorter turn around. I offer a 1-2 week turnaround for a complete interior design. As you will see in the $1k Rooms, hiring an interior designer to give you a quality interior design (on budget) is more accessible than you think! I mean, just check out this modern farmhouse living room! It’s so cozy but full of texture and layers. Definitely not what you would think “budget” would look like.

E-interior design is your choice for great design, affordably and quickly.

SO! Now you know that both your design service and your design can be completely affordable. Isn’t that exciting? A brand new you can be a couple clicks and a couple days away. Everyone deserves to be in a space they LOVE, a space that is totally and uniquely them. A budget definitely does not prevent you from having just that. Tap into a designer’s mind, get their expertise, and treat yourself to a home you adore. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I do. I absolutely love transforming someone’s life through their space. We rarely consider the importance of our surroundings as they relate to our mood and relationships. It’s pretty important and can be a total reflection of your personality and desires. Want me to help you? I would love to.

$1k Room: The Modern Farmhouse Living Room Design

Now, let’s talk about this design! First up in the $1k Room is…a modern farmhouse living room! This is a beautiful bright and airy cool country cottage style with pale blues and pops of red. It’s so relaxing to just look at.

I have a confession, first. I used to hate the farmhouse style. I also used to hate open concept. I used to not like Fixer Upper. I KNOW, I KNOW. Please don’t leave me. I’ve changed; I promise. Proof: I just designed a modern farmhouse living room. So there!

Now in my old age (early 30s, I just wanted to add the drama), I am really drawn towards light and airy floor plans and designs. I now cannot get enough. In fact, I am currently in the process of repainting all of my walls Extra White by Sherwin Williams. About 2 years ago, I was so excited I got permission from my landlord to paint, that I decided I would paint my walls the opposite of what they were, which was white. So I chose really moody medium to dark colors in various shades of blue and gray. It was great for a while, but now that I am working from home, I needed something bright and happy. I literally felt like I was in a dungeon with my painted walls. I had a gray accent wall (Sherwin Williams Peppercorn), and our bedroom is painted Danube, also by Sherwin Williams. Danube covered up Loyal Blue which was a big mistake because the room was too small to handle such a dark color and I felt like I lived in a dreary sad cave. But that color looked great at Emily Henderson’s old house, just not mine. She lives in sunny California, I live in a less than 600SQF apartment on the upper west side of Manhattan. Not the same.

So, after all this, I have now joined team fixer upper/farmhouse style. I love rustic. I love farmhouse. I love light walls and even slipcovered chairs (GASP). This was the perfect concept to kick off the $1k Room! This modern farmhouse living room needs to be my apartment.

I used color and some pattern with pops of red, but it still feels light and airy because of that beautiful cool blue palette. I especially love the silver chandelier because it is modern but the shape is classic. The striped pillows are super on trend but also very very traditional, the striped rug is also a traditional pattern that is on trend in modern spaces. I topped it all off with airy white curtains and a cozy tripod lamp. If you ask me, it’s pretty great. It reminds me of the Hamptons which I looooove.

Let me know in the comments what you think about my modern farmhouse living room $1k Room. I would love to read your feedback. All of the products I used are linked below so we can be #twinsies! Are there any other styles you want to see in another $1k Room?
